One day from life of the volunteer.

Wednesday 7th of April.

My day started at around half past ten, when I arrived at the Centre. Usually I get there a little earlier, but unfortunately I had jumped into the wrong bus in the morning, which caused me to have a little delay. But nevertheless I was in time for the first event... Tatiana Stepanova’s “master class” in Monotype. This is a technique for painting which always results in very interesting outcomes.
The technique is as following; apply some soap on the smooth side of an empty postcard. Then use a placemat for your paint (thus not painting directly on the paper). Then press the postcard onto the paint, and by applying force on the card a nice but unpredictable pattern will emerge on the card. This technique is also applied by the famous painter Max Ernst (I think) and today we all got to be Max Ernst for little while.
What made it even more special was that there was a film crew from a local television station to document the “master class”. Their presence was in relation to the upcoming contest of Art by Disabled People. The Raduga Centre is a contender in this contest and Elena Smagliy of EURC Social Partnership had invited this crew to generate more exposure. So hopefully there will be an nice item on the television with the people of Raduga.
After that we celebrated (name unknown)’s birthday. There was an applause for the birthday boy and cake with the lunch for everyone. After that we were even presented with a dance show by the newly nineteen year-old, much to everyone’s pleasure.
Later in the day was the weekly drum-workshop, which a lot of people enjoy. The others could go on with crafts such as making bead decorations, drawing or other activities.
All in all it was a not-so typical day at the Raduga Centre for Rehabilitation. Yet again it was a nice day, with many exciting things happening. It was a day full of events.
