In frames of the cooperation between Donetsk Education and Science Department of regional administration and Volunteer Agency which runs on the basis of the public organization EURC “Social Partnership” there were involved 600 volunteers for the Youth Football Championship Euro 2009. They are mostly young people from various cities of Donetsk region – Donetsk, Makeevka, Gorlovka, Torez.
During April-May a team of the Volunteer Agency conducted informational meetings among students, collected applications, participated in preparatory program for volunteers. There were organized 8 trainings on “Volunteering and communication skills”, “Leadership and team work”
The Championship starts on the 21st of July. Volunteers will be divided into 4 big groups and will act in the following directions: interpreters and guides, welcome committees, volunteers on the stadiums and in information centers.
In general volunteering is rapidly developing in Donetsk. About such collaboration as “citizens-organizations-local authorities” learned a lot of people. In perspective public organizations, governmental institutions plan to involve volunteers to large-scale actions. For instance at the moment the administration of a new stadium “Donbass Arena” announced a call for volunteers who are interested to help with grand opening of the most up-to-date stadium in Europe.
