Open Space for Artists

In March 2010, with the support of anticrisis humanitarian program the Open Society Institute (New York-Budapest) and the International Renaissance Foundation in Donetsk, has launched a new social project aimed at supporting and cooperation of NGOs working with disabled people in Donetsk region for promotion and involvement of local citizens into charitable activities and support to amateur artists, who belong to the category of persons with disabilities by creating and maintaining online galleries of their works.

Today there are quite a number of NGOs involved in addressing the problems of the disabled. But despite this, people with disabilities remain isolated from society, and almost no one pays attention to the fact that they require not only financial support but also recognition of their full members of society, talented and gifted people.
That's why the East-Ukrainian resource Center "Social Partnership" initiated the implementation of this project in Donetsk region "Open space for artists. The project will last three months - from March to May 2010.
In frames of the project there will be the following activites:
• Create on-line gallery of art works of disabled people, which will be constantly renewing by new art works;
• Organize a series of master classes for volunteers, social workers and people with fewer opportunities;
• Hold an art competition among disabled people 2010;
• Undertake a series of interactive sessions among pupils with the aim of education tolerant attitude towards the disabled;
• Organize and hold an exhibition of art works made by disabled children and youth.
