On the 24 of September in Donetsk there was conducted the training «How to use potential of volunteers at 100%» for the representatives of public and governmental organizations. This event took place within the framework of project «Creation of the coordinating center for international volunteer services in Donetsk» with the support of the German fund «Memory, Responsibility and Future».
In spite of the fact that, in comparison with other countries, volunteer movement in Ukraine is only developing, more public and governmental organizations try to involve volunteers into their activities. According to the poll, which was conducted among the Ukrainian youth during the International youth football championship 2009, most people would like to be engaged in volunteer work but have no idea what to start with. On the other side the leaders of those organizations, which are ready to co-operate with volunteers, do not have sufficient skills and knowledge in the sphere of volunteer management and motivation to provide productive work. To give necessary information and knowledge how to create effective volunteer program was the main purpose of the training.
The representatives of various public and governmental organizations from Donetsk and other regions of East Ukraine took part in the event. Among them - organization of support for children – invalids «Hope of child», Kharkov volunteer agency, Center of support for blind people, also the representatives of public authorities took part in the event - department of science and education and department of ecology and national resources.
All information was given to the participants in form of interactive presentations, practical exercises, group work and discussions. The delegates learned to formulate their needs, plan volunteer search, conduct interview and prepare orientation and training program. They also discussed what kind of volunteers they would like to involve and designed job descriptions for them.
During the training participants had an opportunity not only to get useful skills and knowledge but also to meet new partners. In general this training met the expectations of the attendants. Now the Volunteer Agency which is acting on the basis of EURC “Social partnership” is looking for volunteers for the designed vacancies. The work towards strengthening volunteer movement is going on.
